Kaleldo

Kaleldo (Summer Heat) is a 2007 Philippine indie film directed by Brilliante Mendoza. Starring Johnny Delgado as Mang Rudy, Cherry Pie Picache as Jesusa (Jess), Angel Aquino as Lourdes, Juliana Palermo as Grace, Allan Paule as Andy, Criselda Volks as Rowena and Lauren Novero as Conrad.

Kaleldo won the 2007 Durban International Film Festival’s Best Actress Award (Cherry Pie Picache). It also won the critic’s prize for the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) at 2007 Jeonju International Film Festival in Korea.

When patriarch Mang Rudy (Johnny Delgado) becomes ill, his three daughters — young Grace (Juliana Palermo), unhappily married Lourdes (Angel Aquino) and estranged lesbian Jess (Cherry Pie Picache) — are torn between allegiance and their personal lives. Allan Paule, Criselda Volks and Lauren Novero co-star in filmmaker Brillante Mendoza’s multifaceted take on “King Lear,” told from each daughter’s perspective.

Also to appear in the film are Miguel Faustmann, Liza Lorena, Rita Magdalena, Coco Martin, Ama Quiambao and Gamaliel Viray.
